Suche nach Top-Quark-Paaren mit gleicher Ladung mithilfe effektiver Feldtheorien

In diesem Projekt werden Daten des ATLAS Detektors am LHC analysiert indem nach Dilepton-Ereignissen mit Top-Quark-Paaren gleicher Ladung gesucht wird. Solche Top-Quark-Paare mit gleicher Ladung sind im Standardmodell der Teilchenphysik sehr stark unterdrückt. Mithilfe von effektiven Feldtheorien (EFTs) werden weitere Effekte außerhalb des Standardmodells zur Entstehung von Top-Quark-Paaren mit gleicher Ladung simuliert.

Dabei werden Methoden des maschinellen Lernens in Form von neuronalen Netzwerken verwendet, um verschiedene Signalregionen mithilfe der simulierten Daten zu erstellen, um die Empfindlichkeit für Signalereignisse zu erhöhen und Hintergründe zu unterdrücken. Zudem werden verschiedene Kontrollregionen verwendet, um die dominanten Hintergründe von Fake-Leptonen und Ladungsfehlidentifikation zu untersuchen. Anschließend wird mithilfe der ATLAS internen Software TRExFitter die Ereignisverteilung zwischen gemessenen und simulierten Daten in den Signalregionen gefittet, um die Werte der verwendeten EFT-Koeffizienten einzuschränken.

Im Rahmen einer Abschlussrarbeit kann an dieser Analyse mitgearbeitet werden. Dabei können zum Beispiel Studien zur Optimierung der verwendeten neuronalen Netzwerken durchgeführt werden.
